Duncan’s experience highlights, in his words, “what co-op is all about” – the opportunity to become an integral part of an organization and do work that is beyond the scope of a typical intern.

Gabriela is our 2018 Undergraduate Co-op Student of the Year, honoured for her work term with Global Affairs Canada (GAC). Gabriela sees her time with GAC as her “capstone position” – an opportunity that allowed her to sharpen her career goals and provided personal and professional development beyond expectations.

Peter Lee worked at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT) for his co-op terms, which closely aligned with his own studies and his future career goals.

Julia’s Co-op experience has been very rewarding as she has had the opportunity to explore many industries on a local, national and international scale, from non-profit to government. Julia worked at the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, Communication Canada, and Foreign Affairs Canada during her time in Co-op.

Avril Espinosa-Malpica is the Arts Co-op Undergraduate Student of the Year for 2017! Avril is honoured for her impressive work at the Global Affairs Canada Trade Commissioner Service (TCS), and for her substantial contributions to the UBC co-op community.

Alex used his co-op work terms to test his strengths and apply his academic studies. He went above and beyond in his Junior Officer role at the Northeast Asia Division of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD) and was recognized by his team as an essential member of the division.

Morrell Andrews received an honourable mention for the 2016 Arts Co-op Undergraduate Student of the Year Award. She was recognized for her co-op term as the Desk Officer for Global Affairs Canada, where her manager described her work as “above and beyond what would be normally expected of an undergraduate intern.”
