Through co-op, Stephanie gained hands-on knowledge and learned what it is like to work in an academic library – all of which she could not have learned in the classroom alone.

Through co-op, Jessica was able to pave the way to her current position, gaining what she calls “invaluable experiences” each step along the way.

Emily is our 2017/2018 iSchool (SLAIS) MLIS Co-op Student of the Year, honoured for her work term with the UBC Learning Exchange and UBC Library’s Community Engagement team. Emily is extremely excited about a future in which libraries can help communities by dismantling barriers to information access.

Through her unique Co-op term at UBC, Lina has been able to connect theory with practice, two elements that are crucial to achieving workplace success.

Ebony’s experience in the co-op program gave her the opportunity to complement her coursework with professional practice that increased the value of her degree. Her co-op work terms as a Student Librarian at UBC Library paved the way for her up and coming career as a Librarian.

Jessica Woolman went into co-op wanting to dabble in as many areas as she could, and her experiences helped her choose what work she found the most satisfying.

As a result of her co-op term, Danielle notes that she is a step ahead in terms of reaching her career goals: “My co-op undoubtedly provided me with an opportunity to explore my interest in collections and technical services, opened doors for further work opportunities, and propelled me forward on my career path.”
