Throughout his co-op terms, Jason was able to improve his data analysis skills with hands-on experience in solving business problems, providing him with inside access to the public research industry post-graduation.

Not only did Stephanie’s co-op positions help validate that she wanted to pursue a career involving coaching others, they also gave her a portfolio of credible experiences to draw upon long after graduation.

Through co-op, Stephen has gained “contacts, references and a resume with good accomplishments in the field of publishing that will show [his] experiences” to future employers.

As a person who has always been interested in Psychology, Vicki’s academic studies were integral to her current career path. Yet the real-world applications of her classes weren’t immediately clear. She says that Co-op helped clarify her trajectory: the program helps students figure out “how the knowledge you gain from school can be applied in a work setting.”

A student in the visual arts, Ting found that her design skills were a great asset to her resume. UBC Arts Co-op led her to communications-related jobs, a field she now finds interesting and rewarding.

Samantha Markham received an Honourable Mention for the Undergraduate Student of the Year award. Through co-op Sam has been able to reach her dream of working for Harbour Publishing after graduation.

Through her co-op terms and many years’ of involvement in student leadership on campus, Cua found herself drawn to the field of equity, diversity and peace education and naturally developing her skill set in communications and project management.

Through her co-op experiences at Dillon Consulting and Global Consulting Group Inc., she has gained connections and experiences, securing a job prior to graduating.

According to Maria, her work term at the library of Angiotech Pharmaceuticals Inc. “[made her] more confident when pursuing a career as an information professional in the near future as a new grad.”

Krystyna Nowak was honoured as the 2014 iSchool (SLAIS) MLIS Co-op Student of the year for work term with BGC Engineering. As the Student Librarian at BGC Engineering, Krystyna’s responsibilities ranged from delivering in-depth research and research analysis services to BGC employees, providing new employees with orientation to the library, and completing an entire redesign of the library’s intranet site.
