Access Summer Funding for UBC Arts Co-op Employers

We’re excited to share that we’ve secured access to funding for UBC Arts Co-op employers to hire students for the summer 2024 term from May-August.

This funding is available through our partnership with the Talent Opportunities Program (TOP), one of the delivery organizations for the federal Student Work Placement Program.

Next Steps:

The funding is limited and available on a first come, first served basis, so please contact RJ Jose if you plan to apply and he can work with you on next steps.

Funding Details:

  • Eligible employers receive a wage subsidy per work term of up to 50% (max $5,000), or 70% (max $7,000) for students from under-represented groups.
  • You can begin the application process before finalizing the student you wish to hire.
  • Employers hire and pay students for the duration of the work term, after which TOP wage subsidies are administered and paid.
  • Funding cannot be stacked with other federal funding programs, such as Canada Summer Jobs and Young Canada Works.
  • Placements must be “net new,” determined by subtracting the number of students hired by an employer in the previous fiscal year from the number of students the employer is intending to hire in the current fiscal year.
  • Program and application info are detailed on https://occ.ca/talent-opportunities-program/. For an overview, refer to the TOP Info Sheet (PDF).
  • For clarification on funding details, including eligibility and “net new” requirements, we can offer basic guidance but also recommend contacting TOP directly.

Employer Eligibility:

  • Eligible – registered Canadian businesses and not-for-profit organizations
  • Ineligible – post-secondary institutions, hospitals, large financial sector employers, crown corporations, and federal, provincial, territorial and municipal government

Student Eligibility:

  • Eligible – Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or persons to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
