2018/19 Honourable Mention
iSchool MAS Co-op Student of the Year

Excellence in the Workplace

During her term as a Records Management Intern at Deloitte, Ruby mainly worked on the transition to paper-lite business operations by preparing paper audit records for future dispositions. This responsibility required the digitization of records, identifying records for disposition, and finally consolidating an updated metadata database of the paper audit records in the office.

During this process, Ruby showcased her project management skills by practicing monitoring, communicating and documenting her digitization implementation plan. By the end of this project, Ruby and her team had digitized over 1,000 documents, inspected over 6,000 files and identified over 2,400 files for future disposition. Ruby’s supervisor, Jennifer Vanderfluit, noted that she accomplished this task through careful planning, innovation, and good project management.

Community Involvement

In addition to her work with Deloitte, Ruby is an active member of the Records and Information Management (RIM) community. She displayed her keen interest in professional development, as a member of the Association of Records Managers and Administrators International, as well as the Association of Canadian Archivists. Furthermore, Ruby also joined the KX platform for technologically advanced practitioners to learn about the latest trends in information technology applications. The knowledge Ruby gained from this supplemented her previous experience focusing on paper records.

Journey from Classroom to Co-op and Career

Ruby joined co-op with the goal of gaining hands-on experience that will deepen her understanding of classroom learning, and enable theory and practice to inform one another. Through co-op, Ruby is ready to set forward in the field of electronic records and information, armed with concrete ideas of the skills and knowledge she will need to thrive and an affirmation of her passion for a career in Records and Information Management.
