She gained experience in her field of interest while also making significant contributions to key philanthropic events that support health care transformations in BC.
Co-op highlights: Going above and beyond
Collaborating closely with the Events team, Allison played a pivotal role in numerous organization-wide initiatives, from prestigious galas like Time to Shine and Vitality to managing independent community events and cause-related marketing campaigns.
Allison’s accomplishments spoke volumes. She managed 57 in-kind partnerships, valued at $60K, and secured substantial donations, resulting in cost savings of $8,500. Her creative flair and strategic mindset were instrumental in crafting compelling auction descriptions, leading to a remarkable $145,000 raised, surpassing targets.
Allison’s willingness to learn motivated her to also take on an important role in coordinating with the Marketing team. Drawing from her experience as a Marketing Coordinator with the UBC Arts Undergraduate Society, Allison integrated her marketing know-how into her role. She collaborated with the Marketing team, alleviating their workload by designing materials and writing copy for various initiatives, including gala program books and e-newsletters.
Allison’s curiosity and adaptability made her an asset to the team. Impressed by the professionalism and quality of Allison’s work, Associate Director of Fundraising Events Phyllis Lai noted that Allison “showed us that co-op students are capable of producing the same caliber work as any other longtime employee.”
From Classroom to Co-op and Beyond
Co-op offered Allison the chance to apply her academic knowledge to the work setting. She was able to bridge her interests in healthcare, business and psychology. Working at the VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation deepened her learning from courses she took on the healthcare landscape. Through this experience, Allison identified a career path in marketing and developed interest in the fundraising and non-profit industry.
