Work Term 2:

What did Anika accomplish?
Juno Beach Centre Association
Anika held several responsibilities at the Juno Beach Centre (JBC), Canada’s Second World War Museum in Normandy, France. As a Museum Projects Assistant, she assisted with writing copy for upcoming exhibitions, edited, transcribed and translated videos, and created numerous promotional and educational drawings to celebrate Juno Beach Centre’s 20th anniversary.
Applying Academics to Action
Some of Anika’s most enriching experiences in her undergrad were marked by producing historical research papers that allowed her to trace stories of the past and examine them with a fresh perspective. It was with the JBC that she was able to apply her academic skills and passion for history in a professional setting, with opportunities to write historical blog posts and research artifacts for an upcoming exhibition.
The JBC also encouraged Anika to explore her other interests, such as illustration and design, enabling her to produce several posters, graphics, and illustrations that have been showcased on the Centre’s social media, in historical conferences, and in exhibitions in Normandy. One of Anika’s highlights includes writing four panels of historical copy for an upcoming temporary exhibition that will be presented in the museum. Through this, Anika learned that there are intersections in the workplace for a variety of passions, skill sets, and academic knowledge.
Personal and Professional Skills
Anika’s co-op journey offered her crucial insights into her desired post-graduation work environment. At PoMoArts, she thrived in a close-knit team that emphasized collaboration, which grew her interpersonal skills and nurtured professional relationships. At the JBC, Anika learned how to work independently under the supervision of a large team, refining her communication skills and gaining a grounded understanding of realistic expectations. Anika says co-op gave her access to both a collaboration-oriented and independent work environment, which helped her gain valuable connections, insights, skillsets, and a newfound sense of confidence aligned with her envisioned career path.
