OT Consulting/Treatment Services
As a Rehabilitation Administrator, Anqi worked in a dynamic environment with a wide variety of individuals. In addition, she provided customer service to clients in person and over the phone. Through this position she gained experience interacting with clients in a professional environment and further developed her interpersonal skills.
UBC Developmental Neuroscience and Child Health Unit
In her second work term, Anqi’s main tasks consisted of data collection and analysis. She managed information on a clinical database to collect and score study questionnaires, as well as enter and track data. She then exported and collated the data into an SPSS database for analysis. Anqi also performed preliminary data analysis for research reports.
Anqi had the opportunity to submit her work on 2 projects for the UBC Multidisciplinary Undergraduate Research Conference (MURC) and UBC Psychology Undergraduate Research Conference. Both conferences are well-respected and entrance is competitive. Anqi was both excited and hesitant as she didn’t have experience working on a research project alone, or presenting research at a conference. She worked hard from the beginning and got accepted by both conferences. She pushed past her hesitations and with hard work and a positive attitude, she developed two posters and presented them at both of the conferences.
What would Anqi tell others about Arts Co-op?
Anqi tells students, “Joining the Arts Co-op Program is the best decision I’ve made at UBC.” She highly recommends the program to all students whether or not they have a clear direction for a future career.
How did Arts Co-op benefit Anqi?
Discovery of a Career Path
Through her first work term, Anqi realized that working with the public and multiple clients simultaneously wasn’t for her. She found the customer service aspect of being a Rehabilitation Administrator challenging and realized that working with the public is not where her strengths lie. During her 2nd and 3rd work terms, Anqi worked independently or with a small group of individuals and came to realize this is her ideal work environment. She enjoyed working in a research setting and sees a future career in the medical or health care field and upon graduation she plans on applying for a masters in Audiology or Psychology.
Skills & Experience for a Head Start
Through co-op, Anqi gained experience conducting research, obtained excellent references, and developed valuable transferable skills that will enable successful completion of graduate school applications and will be an asset in her future career.
