What did Geoffrey accomplish?
NatureKids BC
During his time at NatureKids BC, Geoffrey took on numerous responsibilities. He conducted research and provided insights into regional diversity and inclusion strategies, which played a pivotal role in enhancing the organization’s community engagement. Notably, he supported a pivotal community report addressing challenges families encounter – financial, educational, and geographic barriers – when pursuing nature experiences.
UBC Wellness Centre
Geoffrey’s role as a Wellness Centre Assistant included a diversity of tasks. He managed business-related and administrative tasks such as supporting financial tracking, processing reimbursements, and liaising between departments. He was also the main point of contact for managing and maintaining the Wellness space.
From Classroom to Community
As a Sociology major and Family Studies minor, Geoffrey’s academics focus on learning about different demographics. A key part of Sociology is to understand how different social groups benefit or are disadvantaged in various contexts, such as healthcare or education. Geoffrey’s co-op experiences added a practical dimension to his studies.
During his time at NatureKids BC, Geoffrey analyzed the barriers confronting BC families in accessing nature, facilitated public outreach, and collaborated with community partners to encourage involvement in nature activities. At the UBC Wellness Centre, he extended support to students from diverse backgrounds, offering guidance on student health and overall well-being by promoting wellness-related information.
Personal and Professional Growth
Over sixteen months, Geoffrey has experienced significant professional and personal development during his co-op terms, which have played a pivotal role in laying the foundation for his career after graduation and providing invaluable insights into his true passions.
Throughout his roles, Geoffrey has skillfully acquired a wealth of skills, forged meaningful connections, and accumulated cherished memories. However, the most impactful aspect has been his ability to make positive impacts on the lives of many families and individuals. This achievement has been instrumental in shaping his personal growth and overall development.
