2015 Undergraduate Student of the Year – Honourable Mention
Major: Art History
Josephine Lee received an honourable mention for the 2015 Arts Co-op Undergraduate Student of the Year Award. Josephine was recognized for her work term at Canadian Literature as the Editorial Assistant who, among other things, worked closely with editors to assemble four issues of the journal. Josephine also contributed to the Arts Co-op community through her work with the Arts Co-op Students’ Association (ACSA).
Excellence in the Workplace
During her year-long position at Canadian Literature, Josephine became highly regarded for her efficiency, exceptional attention to detail, and organizational skills. Josephine was very involved in many aspects of the periodical publishing process. Her duties ranged from proofreading and assembling four issues of the journal to communicating with contributors and designers. Josephine’s supervisors noted how Josephine made a point to respond to inquiries within two business days, and that her dedication and hard work helped to streamline the editing process to two proofs only. Josephine was always excited, full of energy, and strove to make the editorial system more efficient. She also contributed to the new submissions platform for the journal by creating a new set of guidelines and templates.
Along with her stellar work performance, Josephine gave back to the Arts Co-op community throughout the year as the Web Publishing Chair and Photographer for ACSA. In this role, she redesigned the ACSA website, took professional photographs of the executive members, and answered questions during networking lunches at the Arts Co-op pre-employment conferences.
“I developed the habit of confronting my weaknesses and challenging my strengths on a regular basis,” Josephine said, reflecting on her co-op experience. “I made mistakes and held myself accountable for them, learned my limits and pushed against them, and evaluated my own passions and motivations for what I truly wanted to pursue and why I wanted to pursue it.” An Art History major, who plans to graduate in May 2017, Josephine is currently the Editor in Chief for the Undergraduate Journal of Art History and Visual Culture, and continues to use her “confidence, experience, and skillset” to run a team of 9-12 editors and staff.
