Where did Riyadh work?
Work Term 1:
Coordinator, Partner Advisory & Alumni Intern, Deloitte Canada
Work Term 2:

What Did Riyadh Accomplish?
Deloitte Canada
During his time at Deloitte, Riyadh was responsible for conducting performance management HR movement duties in the office and with Deloitte partners across Canada. He initiated an equitable evaluation process for the firm partners by creating a four-month cross-functional project plan, as well as generating executive HR reports, presenting progress in bi-weekly team wide meetings and updating a national talent tracker.
Mitacs Inc.
At Mitacs, Riyadh led strategic change-based HR projects as the organization shifted to a new employee-centric culture. The projects he worked on included major workforce transformation initiatives, a new HR communications platform and improving the company-wide orientation sessions. Riyadh devised and presented solutions for 3 major workforce transformation initiatives involving the revamping of retention practices, a buddy system and an online channel for new hires.
Connections Between Work and Studies
Riyadh explains that the main connections he has been able to make between his work and studies are related to human behaviour. In his introductory and advanced sociology courses, he learned about how economic forces, social movements and other factors such as inequality can influence the workforce.
During his co-op work term with Mitacs, Riyadh conducted research to understand the global environment and accordingly recommend strategic changes to make the employee experience better. In his future career, Riyadh hopes to continue to be involved in considering and working with human behavior outcomes.
Benefits of Co-op in the Future
Riyadh feels that the main benefit he has gained from co-op is the ability to explore different job responsibilities, work industries and environments in his three work terms.
He has worked in roles that were focused on HR movement, performance management, strategic transformation projects, and communications, and he has experienced both working at a private partnership with a large workforce, and a non-for profit government based organization with a small workforce.
Riyadh states that these diverse experiences have given him an idea of not only the type of role he would like to be involved in after graduation but also the industry and company size he would prefer to be in. In addition to this, being able to network with experienced professionals before graduating has helped him to build genuine professional connections, and equipped him with the skills and confidence to continue networking in the future.
